Staged Reading: 35 Dollars and a Dream

One of the great joys in being part of the creative community here in Modesto is opportunities to work with local writers in the early stages of their work. In the case of 35 Dollars and a Dream, I have had to opportunity to play the role of Rose Maddox (of The Maddox Brothers and Rose) in two staged readings. Both were directed by Jim Johnson and performed at Modesto Junior College. The playwrights, Arnold Anthony Schmidt and Ken Miller, use such staged readings as a way to develop and edit their work into stronger and better productions. This particular project enabled me to work on the peculiar Arkansas/California mashup dialect of Rose Maddox.
